The parking lot is on CT 41 (Undermountain Road) north of the intersection with Cobble Road. It is on the west side of the road. The marker on the attached map indicates the position of the entrance. GPS: N41.9941 W73.4265 Rotate the street view from that point to the west to see the entrance to the parking area. By my odometer, it is 0.8 miles to the trail head from the junction of CT Route 41 and US44.

The parking lot is hard to see from the road. It is in a grove of trees. There is a white oval sign with green lettering which reads "Appalachian Trail" at the entrance. The lot is dirt and is situated in a pine grove. I don't see how more than 6-8 cars could park here. The northbound trail (to CT Section 1) goes west from the parking area. To reach the southbound trailhead from the parking lot, go 150 yards south on CT 41 and enter woods on east side of road. 05/29/17 Update: WardandDA @ gmail.com have informed us that all the info here remains accurate as of 06/02/19.

From the Route 41 trailhead in Salisbury go south about a quarter mile to the first intersection, Cobble Road. Go left. It is another 0.4 miles to the intersection with US 44. There is a parking pulloff on the right (south) side a few hundred feet before the intersection. I don't know if overnight parking would be advisable here. Via US 44, the intersection is 0.3 miles west of an Appalachian Trail sign (see next listing) and about 0.3 miles northeast of the intersection with Route 41. See the attached map for Mile 0.7. After leaving Route 41, the southbound AT goes through some attractive woods and fields before reaching Cobble Road. It goes left (east) on Cobble Road, then goes left on US 44. Thus the pulloff mentioned is directly on the AT. The marker on the attached map shows the parking pull-off. It can be seen if you zoom in on the satellite view. There are cars parked there in the view.11/9/20

There is (or was) a white oval sign with green lettering which reads "Appalachian Trail" at this point. It is 0.6 miles northeast of the intersection of US 44 with CT Route 41 in Salisbury. On the satellite view of the attahed map, parking is on the right side of US 44 alongside the triangular field seen near the top right of the picture. Rotate the street view from north to east to south to see this. The sign is visible in the south view. GPS coordinates at this point: N 41.99179 W 73.4153

The southbound trail from CT Route 41 follows US44 from Cobble Road to this point, then crosses the wall through a gap. It continues to parallel the highway in a field, then reenters the woods and starts to climb Barrack Matiff. By my odometer it is 0.3 miles from Cobble Road to the sign. The marker indicates the approximate place that the southbound trail leaves US 44. 9/9/20

See directions to the parking area on Water Street (Mile 8.3). Continue north on Water Street past the power station. The road turns left and crosses Iron Bridge across the Housatonic River. In a short distance turn right on River Road (may also be called Housatonic River Road). In 0.4 miles Sugar Hill Road goes to the left. Follow Sugar Hill Road about a mile to the end of the paved road. There is a small parking area (more of a pull-off) on the right. The marker on the attached map indicates the approximate location of the pull-off. I do not have exact coordinates, but it is at the end of the town maintained road.

Continue on foot up Sugar Hill Road which is a good gravel road for until it passes another house, then it becomes a poor quality dirt road. This trail, which was once part of the AT, is blue-blazed. In about another 0.1 miles, the trail goes to the right as a foot trail. The terrain is relatively flat to Limestone Spring Shelter which is 0.7 miles from the parking area. It continues for another 0.5-0.6 miles, soon becomes very steep then levels off before it reaches the AT near Rand's View (my favorite view on the CT AT). 12/6/20

Parking is on left not right at sign that says vehicles prohibited beyond this point. It is unclear whether parking is allowed or if it's just supposed to be a turn-a-round. There are no signs saying parking or no parking. Parked there for day hike on 6-25-17 without incident though. 06/25/17

See directions to the parking area on Water Street (Mile 8.3). Continue north on Water Street past the power station. The road turns left and crosses Iron Bridge across the Housatonic River. In a short distance turn right on River Road (may also be called Housatonic River Road). In 0.4 miles Sugar Hill Road goes to the left. Just beyond this on River Road there is a parking area for the Great Falls of the Housatonic which are often dry because of the power generating dam just upstream, but are spectacular when there is water. There is parking for 10-15 cars here. In November 2006 the lot was gated and locked. It was open in May 2007, so apparently there is a seasonal closure. There was also a sign saying the area was open only from 7AM to 6PM so overnight parking might not be possible. The green arrow on the attached map indicates the parking area. There is also a paved parking pull-off for 2-3 cars just south of the lot.

The southbound trail crosses to the east side of River Road across from the parking area and parallels the road to the Iron Bridge. It does come out to the road briefly once again and there is another parking pull off for a couple of cars at that point. 12/6/20

There are a number of ways to reach this point. Only one will be given here. Use the attached map to get alternate routes. Start at the intersection with of CT 126 and US 7 just east of Falls Village. Follow CT 126 west. This actually bypasses downtown Falls Village and reaches a T intersection with Railroad Street. Go left. (CT 126 goes right here.) .In a short distance, take the next right turn which leads through an underpass under railroad tracks. I believe there is a sign for Water Street here. On the other side of the underpass, the road bears right (north) towards a power plant. There is a large parking lot on the left in a short distance. GPS of parking area: N 41.9558 W 73.3674

The southbound AT comes in from the north following Water Street. It goes west into a grassy area just north of the parking area. The next section was once called the River Trail, but is now part of the AT. Several years ago it was made accessible to people of all abilities, including those in wheelchairs. Thus it is also referred to as the Accessible Trail. But it is still the AT. This section follows relatively level terrain through fields and woods along the Housatinic River, in part following an old horse racing track. I'm not quite sure where the Accessible portion ends.
The marker on the attached map indicate the parking area. Part of the accessible portion of the AT can clearly be seen as it crosses a field just north and then west of the parking area. 12/6/20

US 7 crosses the Housatonic River south of Falls Village. This is just north (compass east) of the intersection with CT Route 112. There is a traffic light at the intersection with Warren Turnpike on the east side of the bridge. Warren Turnpike goes north. Housatonic Valley Regional High School is a short distance up this road. I have parked here without incident, but it was when school was not in session. It would probably be best to use one of the outlying pull-offs to park. I just don't know about overnight parking. The high school can be seen on the west side of Warren Turnpike near the top of the satellite view of the map attached at Mile 10.4

The northbound AT actually follows Warren Turnpike for a while before going east into the woods. It parallels the road, at some places coming close to railroad tracks. It eventually crosses to the west side of the road following the route of the former River Trail, now an "accessible" trail. I saw some parking pull-offs alogn Warren Turnpike that might be used for parking. 12/6/20

Drive north on Route 7; go 5 miles from Cornwall Bridge to intersection of Routes 7/112. Continue Route 7 another 0.1 -0.2 miles. There is a large dirt parking lot on the right. This is before Route 7 crosse the bridge over the Housatonic River.

The official south end of the section is the crossing of US 7 just south of the intersection with CT 112. There is no parking at the crossing, but there is parking nearby at a large dirt parking lot on US 7 on the other side of the intersection. If one follows the road and not the AT which circles a cornfield, this is not far away. See Mile 10.4.

Parking is also available in the triangle at the intersection of CT 112 and US 7 in what I believe is still the town of Sharon. See attached map. The marker indicates the parking area. The street view to the west or south shows this. To reach the AT crossing of US 7 walk south along the highway for a short distance. This crossing is the official north end of Section 3 and south end of Section 2. The southbound trail goes west into the woods. The map shows the southbound trail. The northbound trail goes east, circling around the large cornfield. Any comments about parking safety here refer to the parking at the triangle. GPS of parking in triangle: N 41.9310 W 73.3642
